Switches and Switch Interconnects

چکیده
Switched networks are receiving much attention and supplying a major class of interconnect networks. This paper discusses major issues in switch design and switch interconnects. Due to the importance of high-speed switches in building switched LANs, major design issues are studied and several commercial switches are reviewed. Among different techniques used in switch design, cut-through switching promises short latency delivery and thus is well suited to distributed/parallel applications. The back pressure flow control of cut-through switching also prevents packet loss due to buffer overflow. For economical and practical reasons, switch interconnects should support irregular topologies, which makes deadlock-free routing more difficult. To provide good network performance, a key point is to develop a traffic-balanced network with minimum diameter and average path length. It is important to understand the issues and solutions in these areas in order to meet the increasing performance demand.

On-chip Global Interconnects for Networking ASICs-white paper
While serial transceivers move data in and out of an ASIC, on-chip global interconnects move data inside the ASIC. These global interconnects include crossbar switches and busses for sharing on-chip resources. To guarantee quality of service, the on-chip global interconnects are often designed to carry several times worth of traffic compared to the serial transceivers. Close to 10 Tb/s is not a...

According to contact type, RF MEMS switches are generally classified into two categories: Capacitive switches and Metal-to-Metal ones. The capacitive switches are capable to tolerate a higher frequency range and more power than M-to-M switches. This paper presents a cantilever shunt capacitive RF MEMS switch with characteristics such as low trigger voltage, high capacitive ratio, short switchin...

متن کاملDeadlock Avoidance for Wormhole Based Switches
This paper considers the architecture of switches. In particular we study how virtual cut-through and wormhole networks can be used as the switch internal interconnect. Introducing such switches into a deadlock free interconnect may give rise to new deadlocks. Previously, to reason that no deadlocks are created, the resulting system was considered globally, that is, the interconnects of the swi...
